What is better than starting a project? Handing it over!!

This month, the Sahara Foundation team held a handover ceremony of the newly renovated Divisional Police station facilities at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), Onne, Rivers State.

You could literally feel the excitement in the room as key members of the Nigeria Police Force at the FOT Onne divisional Police Headquarters toured the revamped station. In their words, “it had been months since anyone could set foot in the bathrooms as there was no water in the building and the toilets were in bad condition”.

In 2021, Sahara Foundation commenced the improved security through clean energy project with the goal of supporting operations and promoting better vigilance across selected police stations in our host communities. After a careful needs assessment, the Asharami Synergy Limited Depot, Onne inside the Federal Ocean Terminal and in close proximity to the First Independent Power Limited (FIPL plant in Eleme), was selected as one of the beneficiary stations.

The Handover ceremony was hosted by the Divisional Police Officer of the station, CSP Gladys Nwaeke with full representation of the entire Police team and compliments of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police. Sahara Group was represented by the Chief Operating Officer of FIPL, Felix Ebiware, Asharami Synergy Ltd Depot Managers, Ikechukwu Diala and Quadri Gbolahan, alongside the Sahara Foundation Team.

This year, Sahara Foundation is committed to further promoting effective policing with the aim of boosting security of lives and property in Nigeria and would be extending the improved security through clean energy project to seven additional police stations in our host communities across Lagos, Rivers, and Edo states.

We are extremely grateful to all our stakeholders especially our volunteer staff members across Asharami Synergy, FIPL, Sahara Infrastructure and Asharami Energy who contributed to the police station revamp project in Onne and we look forward to the continued support of all staff members as we strive towards making sustainable impact.
