Leading energy and infrastructure conglomerate, Sahara Group, has partnered with Air France-KLM to promote clean travel through its recent investment of global business travel miles into Air France-KLM’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) program.

Sahara Group Foundation, the social impact vehicle of energy conglomerate, Sahara Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Nigeria Philanthropy Office (NPO) to facilitate impactful philanthropic and investment support for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in targeted sectors of the economy.

In its quest for sustainable development, Sahara Group, including Asharami Energy, Egbin Power Plant, and Ikeja Electric, has pledged to achieve zero carbon emissions from its oil and gas operations by 2060.

Noting that the energy demand and usage in Africa will increase significantly in coming years, Ajeigbe said, to ensure oil and gas continue to be used to meet Africa’s energy demands, the sector needs to decarbonise its operations quickly.

Protecting and rehabilitating Africa's natural carbon sinks, such as forests, oceans, coastal mangroves, wetlands and grasslands can significantly aid in mitigating the effects of climate change, Ejiro Gray, Director, Governance and Sustainability, Sahara Group has said.

Sahara Energy is a pioneer in the decarbonization of its upstream operations in Africa, according to Wole Ajeigbe, the Group Project Manager for Asharami Energy, a Sahara Group Upstream company.

At the maiden edition of Asharami Square, an initiative of the Sahara Group, themed ‘Carbon Footprints and the African Narratives’, during which climatic changes and its effects especially in Africa were fully discussed, the Group noted the use of waste products like used plastics to produce the plaques is just one of the ways of ensuring cleaner environment.
